Diablo II is an action role-playing hack and slash video game developed by Blizzard North and published by Blizzard Entertainment in 2000 for Windows and Mac OS computers. The game, with its dark fantasy and horror themes, was conceptualized and designed by David Brevik and Erich Schaefer, who with Max Schaefer acted as project leads on the game. The producers were Matthew Householder and Bill Roper.

Building on the success of its predecessor Diablo (1996), Diablo II was one of the most popular games of 2000. Major factors that contributed to Diablo II's success include its continuation of popular fantasy themes from the previous game. An expansion to Diablo II, titled Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, commonly abbreviated to Diablo II: LoD, was released in 2001.

The Completionist[]

On December 28th, 2013, Jirard reviewed Diablo II, a game that he loves, as his holiday episode.

Jirard compliments the atmospheric presentation, which looks and feels depressing for the most part. The music is also very ambient, which Jirard likes. He also takes some time to gush over Deckard Cain.

Jirard likes the single player, specifically the variety and options in classes. However, the multiplayer is where the game really shines for Jirard, though hacking and changes in the scope of the internet has made multiplayer harder to do online. Getting to Level 99 is not something Jirard considers a completion goal, due to how tedious it is and how it does nothing in-game. Despite this, he does it.

Old Man Snitchez (called Deckard Cain in the Diablo Universe) shows up quite often, as this is the series that he stems from. Throughout the review, Snitches tells slowly tells the story, after Jirard explains it. This causes Jirard to get slightly annoyed, however, it doesn't keep him from telling the story.

Trivia[]

  • According to Jirard, the majority of his High School years AND College years was spent playing Diablo II.
  • Jirard played a hardcore play-through of Diablo II on PBG's game play channel.
  • This episode has been "in the making" for 11 months(!). The play time of the game was approximately 1200 hours, or about 50 days of playing. He later says that he played for about 1500 hours, or about 62 days. This is by far the longest time Jirard has needed to finish a game to completion for the show.
