Kirby Super Star, known as Kirby's Fun Pak inEurope and Hoshi no Kirby Super Deluxe (星のカービィスーパーデラックス Hoshi no Kābī Sūpā Derakkusu?, lit. "Kirby of the Stars Super Deluxe") in Japan, is a 1996 platforming video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game console. It was first released in Japan on March 21, 1996, in North America on September 20, 1996, and in Europe on January 23, 1997. Kirby Super Star′s box art states that the game features eight games in one cartridge. Most of these games offered are mostly platforming-oriented, while some others are mini-games. The game was later released for the Wii Virtual Console in Japan in October 2009 and in North America and Europe in May 2010 while the Wii U Virtual Console version was released in Japan on May 1, 2013 and in North America and Europe on May 23, 2013, although the Wii U Europe users get the North American version instead. An enhanced remake titled Kirby Super Star Ultra was released for the Nintendo DS in 2008.

The Completionist[]

Jirard reviewed Kirby Super Star for the 122nd episode of The Completionist. This marks the first time Jirard has played the game, as well as the second time he has ever played a Kirby game (after Kirby's Dream Land). Doug Grosser donated the game for him to review.

Jirard praises the presentation of the game, and draws parallels between parts of this game and the Super Smash Bros. series. He finds this a little problematic, but can look past that. Humorously, Jirard tries to think of a comparison point for how empowered getting powers in the game is, and Zan gives him the suggestion "Martin Luther King."

Jirard praises the co-op aspect of the game, and brings special attention to the food sharing system. He also receives the game's variety and powers well. However, he finds the completion bonus after beating The Arena, a sound test, to be very disappointing.

Jirard's final note on the game is that it's best enjoyed with a friend, and that it's very fun.

Trivia[]

  • This episode marks the introduction of a new feature in the Completionist videos: having a "Section Complete" message at the end of the story and presentation sections of the review.
